Quick relief for painful mouth sores
Canker sores and cold sores can be a real pain. We offer a quick, easy treatment that brings relief: low-level laser therapy (LLLT). Dental lasers help us treat a number of oral health conditions, and the advantages are impressive.
About cold sores
Cold sores, also called fever blisters, are small fluid-filled blisters around the mouth or on the lips. They are caused by a common virus that stays dormant in the body and can be triggered again by stress, fatigue, illness, acidic foods or injury to the area. You may feel tingling, itching or pain before a sore appears, sometimes with a fever or sore throat. Cold sores break open and crust over before they heal, which can take several days to weeks.
About canker sores
Canker sores, or aphthous ulcers, are painful sores inside the mouth, on the inner lips and cheeks, the tongue or the roof of the mouth. They are usually small and round, white or yellowish with a red border, and can make eating and speaking uncomfortable. They are thought to be triggered by stress, lack of sleep or injury, and acidic or spicy foods can make them worse.
Why treat sores with laser therapy?
- Quick and non-invasive
- Painless, with no needles
- Many patients feel relief right away
- Stimulates healing so sores shrink faster
- May lower the risk of sores coming back
Low-level lasers stimulate cell growth in the affected area, helping the sore heal naturally. Studies show most patients feel immediate pain relief, and many heal within about two days.
